Verdun gets new Salvation Army

Today marked the opening of a brand new Salvation Army thrift store. Located on the famous Promenade Wellington, the crowd was lined up down the block hoping to
find some treasure.A special treat was given to the first 100 people who showed up, some Krispy Kream donuts to fuel the bargain hunting, and a reusable bag to
haul all the loot home.

Known in Canada as the “Sally Ann” their mission has been helping both the environment and the community for many years.Donated clothing, shoes, housewares and toys
are sold at a reasonable price with no tax, and in return the funds are used for rehabilitation centres and to help feed those in need.

Most sought after items were gone within minutes, as people young and old rushed down each isle in anticipation of finding something special. In the weeks before,
the staff worked hard to fill the shelves. Passersby on Wellington had a chance to have a sneak peek everyday, as all the items were brought in. The specialized
collectors were amongst the first in line, trying to get the goods such as records or electronics, which the store had put in locked display cases.

Since this location is a bit on the small side, the best way to find the certain items is to come back weekly. You will start to see familiar faces as it does
become very addictive, there are many unique finds that no other type of store has. The staff will definitely have a bit of work to do this week restocking the
shelves for all those who didn’t make it today.

Happy thrifting!
